Description Tips

Excellent piece by Susan J. Morris on writing meaningful description into your story here  It's my major weakness when writing so I always check out how other writers use description in their stories.

It gets more difficult in a short story, I think. You can only do so much of this in 3500 words. And yet, do none and it's never any good. You do need to set a scene even if you don't describe clothes, etc.

Yes, it's a fine edge to walk, Patti. I love writing dialogue but have to remember that readers need a bit of setting, of taste and smells. I always have to remind myself to add all that in with a rewrite. :)
